Biehle Fire 1986

October 8th – 14th marks National Fire Prevention Safety Week. Thirty-one years ago, on April 19th, a fire started at the original Biehle store and eventually destroyed the five-story building. Prior to the fire, Rudy Buchheit had operated out of the building for 52 years. Through their tragedy, the Buchheit family helped establish a local fire  department and building to house it. Today, we still remember the loss of Rudy Buchheit’s General Store and take extra safety precautions.

Here are some fire safety tips:

  • Paper, wood, and flammable liquids are all examples of fuel for fire
  • If an electrical cord is frayed, it should be replaced immediately
  • Don’t overload circuits and turn off appliances each day
  • Call 911 immediately after finding a fire
  • When using an extinguisher, remember PASS.
  • Be aware of the emergency exits, escape plans, and designated sheltered areas
  • Make sure that windows and doors are not blocked

If smoke or fire is detected on the premises, we ask all Buchheit Team Members, customers, and guests to proceed to our designated sheltered areas. All entrance/exit doors should remain unlocked and the location will temporarily cease all operations until an all clear is received.
